Team from Argents have a Cryptic Escape

Recently some members of staff took part in a team building event and visited Cryptic Escape in Norwich.

The Cryptic Escape is the first real-life escape game in Norwich. For those not aware a live escape room scenario involves being locked in a room and given 60 minutes to find a way to escape. There are a lot of objects, codes, hidden hints, that can help you to get out. During the event the game masters will guide you through if you get stuck.

To find the way to escape you have to uncover objects in the room, solving puzzles and obtaining clues (and using your prior general knowledge – which we quickly established was not really enough!) to ultimately obtain the key or code to open the door. We don’t want to give too much away in case you find yourself doing it yourself one day!

There are three rooms in the Norwich Cryptic Escape each with a different theme – one Pirate’s treasure, one mad scientist’s laboratory and one ghost and spooky related.  We were divided into two teams and played just one room each.  Sadly, neither team was ultimately successful in escaping their room in time.  However, the organisers told us this was what generally happened – the rooms are not easy to solve – and when they showed us how far we were along the way by the end of our hour it showed we had at least made decent attempts!

Afterwards when reunited with our mobile phones (these are taken from you for the duration of the task) the debrief took place over several drinks in the pub next door and it was agreed we enjoyed it so much that we are planning to go back for a second attempt – and who knows maybe even a third!
