New allocation of Horizon 2020 funding

The Horizon 2020 funding programme for research and innovation projects has allocated €600 million to be spent on seven new initiatives. The funding programme, which will run till 2020, will remove barriers to innovation and promote world-class science in Europe. The funding will provide support for projects such as digital health, smart transport, factories of the future and energy-efficient buildings. The competition for the funding opens on 20 September 2016 and eligible projects must involve a consortium of at least three organisations. The UK Government has pledged to underwrite the payment of any awards made under Horizon 2020 where projects continue beyond the date when the UK finally leaves the EU.
