HMRC receives record number of complaints

Complaints against HMRC reached a seven-year high last year, figures obtained by chartered accountants Saffery Champness have revealed. HMRC handled nearly 81,100 complaints in 2015/16, representing a year-on-year increase of 10%, and this was the most complaints handled in a year since 2008/9. The proportion of complaints fully or partially upheld increased from 46% in 2014/15 to 51% in 2015/16.
