Charities reminded about data protection duties
The Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Fundraising Regulator have issued a joint alert reminding charities that they must protect the personal information of their donors. According to the alert every charity must have systems in place to ensure that any data protection law applicable to its activities is identified and complied with. Charity trustees' data protection duties apply alongside their duties under charity law. The alert was published following two successful prosecutions by the Information Commissioner's Office earlier this month.
